Characteristics of the Cocker Spaniel

There are two types of Cocker Spaniels: English and American breeds. This breed is the smallest breed in the AKC Sporting group and was originally bred for hunting. The American Spaniel is typically smaller with a shorter back and muzzle and the English breed is taller with a more narrow head and chest. Both types can come in black, liver, red, tan and combinations of colors such as roan and tans and tricolors. English breeds range from 15 to 16 inches in height and 28 to 32 pounds in weight and American Spaniels range from 13 to 15 inches in height and 24 to 30 pounds in weight. Their coat is soft and wavy and requires regular grooming to keep it healthy and unmatted.

Temperament of the Cocker Spaniel

A well cared for Cocker Spaniel puppy will grow to become a gentle, affectionate and loving member of your family. They are known to be good with children and other pets, so to ensure your puppy will grow to fit these qualities socialization is important. They are intelligent dogs, making them easier to train than some breeds. Many of our customers come from North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, West Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Maryland, Delaware, Washington DC
